Elvis had interest in Mormon religion/ Inspires spiritual biopic "Tears of a King"

There's a whole lotta shakin' goin' on in Utah.

Rob Diamond, a Salt Lake-based actor/writer/director, is currently filming the movie "Tears of a King" that centers around Elvis Presley the night before his death in 1977, looking back over his life and the choices he had made.

The inspiration came after Diamon discovered Presley read a lot on spiritual topics and was given the copy of The Book of Mormon by a fan named Cricket who had joined the LDS Church. After the musician's death, the book was returned to the woman who later gave it to musician/celebrity Alan Osmond who passed it on to an LDS official who placed it in the church archives.

"Whether you're Mormon or not, you're going to want to see it. It's a man's spiritual quest and the mistakes he made," Diamond said.

"Tears of a King" is scheduled to be released sometime in 2007, the 30th anniversary of Presley's death. Diamond plans to show the film at several film festivals prior to its theatrical release.

More information and multimedia about the film will be at www.tearsofaking.com within the next few weeks.

Introducing Lisa Marie Presley's official MAC makeup ad!

Priscilla and Macy's

Priscilla Presley introduced the runway portion of Macy's recent annual Passport AIDS fundraiser at Fort Mason.

Her comment about fashion:

"I like to do my own shopping, I used to own a boutique, so I like to look around and see what's out there,'' Presley said. "I like to look a little girly, but not flirty-girly, you know? I don't follow trends, like layering. I live in L.A. We don't know how to layer!''

At the event, Presley talked about the Dream Foundation- a charity which she became passionately involved with after helping grant a dying man a trip to Graceland.

Elvis and Jesus Christ got something(s) in common

From MemphisFlyer.com:

One has been called the King of Kings, the other the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll. But those aren’t the only similarities between Jesus Christ and Elvis Presley.
Whosoever, the online magazine for gays, lesbians, and transgendered Christians, has highlighted other commonalities shared by two of the world’s most beloved kings.

For example: “Jesus said: "Love thy neighbor." (Matthew 22:39). Elvis said: "Don't be cruel." (RCA, 1956)”

“Jesus is the Lord's shepherd. Elvis dated Cybill Shepherd.”

“Jesus was resurrected. Elvis had the famous 1968 ‘comeback’ TV special.”

“Jesus' entourage, the Apostles, had 12 members. Elvis' entourage, the Memphis Mafia, had 12 members.”

“Mary, an important woman in Jesus' life, had an Immaculate Conception. Priscilla, an important woman in Elvis' life, went to Immaculate Conception High School.”

SOLD: Presley's California Estate

Priscilla Presley has sold one of her California estates, reportedly for some $2.5 million.

The Los Angeles Times said Presley, the actress and ex-wife of late rock legend Elvis Presley, described the Canterbury, Calif., home as “a country English farmhouse on a grand scale.”

The paper said the spread includes a seven-bedroom house, three-tiered theater and other amenities on five lakeside acres. But the Times said Presley owns several homes and rarely used the place.

Presley, 61, still oversees many of her late ex-husband’s businesses. She also starred in 1991’s “The Naked Gun” and two of its sequels.

Lisa's big MAC

By SAMANTHA CRITCHELL, AP Fashion Writer
Wed Sep 6, 1:27 PM ET

NEW YORK -

Lisa Marie Presley, Debbie Harry, Eve and Dita Von Teese are the newest crop of unlikely makeup models in MAC Cosmetics' Viva Glam ad campaign.

It's not just the spokesmodels who are unusual, it's also the product they promote: 100 percent of the sales of Viva Glam lipsticks and lip glosses are donated toHIV and AIDS programs, including treatment, education and daily necessities.

Presley said she agreed to participate in the campaign because of its fundraising efforts.

"MAC is actually, honestly, really true blue about its charity," the 38-year-old singer — and daughter of Elvis Presley — told The Associated Press in a recent phone interview.

"You can see it making headway. They've raised $70 million that's been used incredibly well. It's not a campaign full of fluff, and I'm not a fluff person."

Presley said she's known Harry for several years and has crossed paths with Von Teese, but hadn't met Eve until the photo shoot a few weeks ago.

Even though she doesn't consider herself to be either a beauty expert or a model, she tried to put her best face on for the campaign, Presley said, because of the cause and the interesting and admirable group of women she was working with.

"I think we're all reaching out in a different direction — whoever can reach a certain segment of the audience," she said.

So, who's her audience?

"That's a complex question. Based on my fan base, it's 80 percent gay, young girls, bikers, women my age and then some occasional Elvis fans. It's an eclectic potpourri," she said with a laugh. "If I go to a signing or show, it's a rainbow."

Previous spokesmodels for the ad campaign, which debuted 12 years ago, include: Christina Aguilera, Missy Elliott, Pamela Anderson and Boy George.

John Demsey, global president of MAC and chairman of the MAC AIDS Fund, said this year's models were chosen for their personal commitment to the fight against AIDS.

"We want to rattle some cages. We want to grab people's attention and not let them turn away. And most importantly, we want to reach even more people. Our Viva Glam VI spokespeople cut through the clutter. They are all incredibly talented and have strong and distinct points of view and unique perspectives on this crisis," he said in a statement.

Tupelo tourism group approves funds for Elvis museum

TUPELO, Miss. The Tupelo Convention and Visitors Bureau in Mississippi has approved a 50-thousand dollar request to fund renovations at the Elvis Presley Museum.

The agency had denied the request on two occasions earlier this summer because members of the Elvis Presley Memorial Foundation had refused to turn over some financial reports. The foundation has since provided the information.

Renovations are expected to begin this fall on a multimedia exhibit focusing mostly on Elvis as a boy. Presley, who died in 1977, was born and grew up in Tupelo before his family moved to Memphis when he was 13.

Elvis: $3 million bounty

A reward of $3 million has been offered to anyone who finds Elvis Presley alive.

The bounty has been stumped up by a US filmmaker who is currently putting together a documentary to coincide with next year's 30th anniversary of The King's death.

Adam Muskiewicz says he will pay-out the enormous reward if anyone gets concrete evidence to back up the conspiracy theories that suggest Elvis is still alive.

Muskiewicz has set-up a website to support the investigation, which has seen him interview around 200 people who knew the original rock'n'roll star.

He claims that around 25 per cent of the people interviewed so far believe Elvis is still alive, a theory backed-up by confusion surrounding his apparent death and subsequent funeral.

"You don't have to be an expert to see there were procedural questions - why was the funeral so fast? Things were sealed and people went quiet," Muskiewicz told Reuters.

Gellar sues over Ebay breach

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Celebrity psychic Uri Geller and two partners claim in a federal lawsuit that the former owners of Elvis Presley's first house breached an eBay contract to sell the home.

Geller, who gained notoriety in the 1970s for seeming to bend spoons through telekinesis, and his partners are seeking to rescind the sale of the property to Nashville record producer Mike Curb.

Their $905,100 offer was the high bid in the May 14 Internet auction. But after the auction, they made changes to the real estate contract that gave owners Cindy Hazen and Mike Freeman 60 days to move from the property.

"If we had signed the contract, they could have taken possession immediately. We couldn't do that," Freeman said.

Hazen and Freeman then decided to sell the house to Curb for $1 million, a move Geller and his partners claim broke their contract.

For Hazen and Freeman, now divorced, the sale of the Audubon property resulted in the reopening of a bankruptcy case in which they had been excused of $43,000 in debt. With profits from the sale of the home, Hazen said, more than $43,000 was placed in escrow to cover the debts owed to their creditors.

In a court hearing Thursday, Hazen and Freeman agreed to repay the money. "We wanted to fulfill that obligation," she said.

A former lieutenant governor of California, Curb is chairman of Curb Records and head of the Mike Curb Family Foundation, which describes itself as a "philanthropic organization dedicated to preserving music history and promoting music business education."

A Curb spokeswoman said in June that the foundation was negotiating with a Memphis college to operate a music education center at the former Presley home. She declined to name the college.

Presley bought the four-bedroom, ranch-style Memphis house in 1956 with his early song royalties. The singer, his parents and grandmother lived there for 13 months before moving to a two-story colonial house already known as Graceland.

Schiling shares Elvis memories in new book

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Beth Rucker, AP
Published: Monday, August 21, 2006

When he was 12, Jerry Schilling couldn't believe the voice he heard on the radio singing "That's All Right" belonged to a teenager from his own north Memphis neighborhood.

A few days after hearing the song, he was playing a pickup football game, and the quarterback on his team was the same kid from the neighborhood, 19-year-old Elvis Presley.

"We went into a huddle, and I said, 'Wow, that's the guy with a song on the radio!'" Schilling told The Associated Press.

Schilling has written a new memoir about his 23-year friendship with Presley, but he didn't use the book to convince anyone that his childhood friend was a great performer or a rock 'n' roll legend.

Instead, "Me and a Guy Named Elvis," written with Chuck Crisafulli, shows Presley's more human side, the intelligent and passionate man who struggled with drug abuse and was frustrated with his mediocre Hollywood movies.

After Presley's death in 1977, Schilling, who still lives in the Hollywood Hills, Calif., home that Elvis bought for him, worked for Elvis Presley Enterprises and produced documentaries and TV specials about the performer.

But Schilling had always said he wasn't interested in writing an Elvis book, as other members of the inner circle had done. He changed his mind only when Schilling's wife, Cindy, urged him to tell the story.

Schilling worked with Crisafulli, an entertainment journalist who has written several books. Publisher Gotham, an imprint of the Penguin Group, said that the pair wrote the book side by side over the course of three years, and it was a very successful collaboration. There are about 30,000 copies in print of the book, which already has been sent back for a second printing since its Aug. 17 release.

"It's a fun, complicated book about a simple friendship in a complicated world," Schilling said in a recent interview while in town to promote his new book. "(His death) was the biggest loss of my life, ever. I still miss him."

Peter Guralnick, author of the two-volume biography of Presley, "Last Train to Memphis" and "Careless Love," said Schilling's memoir is a balanced treatment of Presley and offers insights into the characters that surrounded the musician.

The book is "a personal memoir that, while it places its narrator squarely in the midst of historic events, never claims credit for those events in the way that so many self-serving memoirs are inclined to do," Guralnick wrote in the book's foreword.

The memoir also received the blessing of Presley's wife Priscilla and his daughter Lisa Marie.

Davis-Kidd Bookseller in Memphis sold more than 80 copies of the book during a preview weekend — a good showing for a topic that has tired most folks in Memphis, said Katherine Whitfield, marketing manager for the store.

"Me and a Guy Named Elvis" stands out from other Presley-themed books because it's clear he's not just trying to make a buck off his famous friend, Whitfield said.

"I think a lot of care was put into it," she said. "He talks about Elvis sort of like an older brother. I've seen a lot of people tell a lot of stories; it's hard to fake that sincerity."

Publisher's Weekly agreed, saying the memoir's "heartfelt narrative makes this more than just another piece of Elvis product."

Schilling started working for Presley in 1964, doing whatever was needed as Elvis moved from concerts to movie sets to the studio.

Those who worked for Presley — the so-called Memphis Mafia — became his friends and confidants. Presley even allowed Schilling and the others to live in his Memphis home at Graceland.

Schilling recalled a time while he lived at Graceland when Presley asked him to go for a drive with him. After a quiet ride, they pulled into the cemetery where the entertainer's mother, Gladys, was buried.

"Seeing him before that monument, it came to me that, perhaps for the very first time, I could see my friend as a small, fragile human — just like any other," he writes.

Even when Presley started seeing Priscilla, the Memphis Mafia was always around. Presley's manager, "Colonel" Tom Parker, shut his buddies out of their 1967 wedding in Las Vegas, but Presley managed to invite them along on the honeymoon.

"When he carried Priscilla across the threshold of their new Palm Springs home — the so-called Honeymoon House — the first thing Priscilla saw on the other side was us," Schilling writes.

Presley wanted his buddies around, but he wanted them to keep their distance from Priscilla, Schilling said, even though they were all living under the same roof.

Schilling once saw Priscilla in the kitchen of Graceland looking flushed and asked her if she was feeling OK — not realizing she and Elvis had been arguing. Priscilla later told Elvis that Schilling cared about her feelings, and it drove Elvis crazy. Schilling said Presley stormed into a room where his friends were watching TV and announced, "I don't need anybody else taking care of Priscilla and checking how she is." Schilling said he didn't talk to Priscilla again for almost a full year.

Even though the couple argued and eventually divorced, they remained close through the rest of singer's life. But the person who made him the happiest was his daughter, Lisa Marie.

"Elvis and Lisa were just magic together," Schilling said, adding that Presley wanted more time with his family just before his death.

Drugs have long been the suspected cause of Presley's death, and Schilling said he took pills to escape the disappointment he felt about the direction of his career. Elvis wanted to produce his own film about karate, but Parker refused to allow it. Elvis tried to make the movie himself with Schilling's help, but it was shelved as Elvis spent more time in the hospital to combat fatigue and drug usage.

He was also excited about the chance to appear alongside Barbra Streisand in the movie, "A Star Is Born." He thought the role — which eventually went to Kris Kristofferson — would prove he could do more than be the good-looking nice guy he played in most of his movies.

Parker ended Presley's participation in "A Star Is Born" with demands of twice the salary that Elvis was being offered and that he be billed before Streisand, who not only starred in the film, but also co-produced it.

"It was the creative disappointment that killed Elvis," Schilling said. "The drugs were just a Band-Aid."

Behind the Image

In the sea of Elvis memorabilia on the market, one company has set itself apart with two documentary-style DVDs that capture little-seen footage of The King, in a new, high-quality format.

BUD GLASS, an avid collector of Elvis memorabilia, was frustrated at the lack of the quality of the Elvis footage that was circulating collectors circles. There was plenty of Super 8 mm footage being passed around, but as copies were made, the quality deteriorated.

Glass dreamed of creating a high-quality, affordable DVD of all of the accumulated footage. Out of this desire, along with Praytome Publishing, he created 'Elvis: Behind the Image' Volumes 1 and 2.

The DVDs feature original footage replicated directly from the film reels with cutting-edge laser technology into DVD format. Content-wise, they combine historic coverage with never-before-heard insights on the life of The King, from first-hand experiences of those who surrounded him.

Where is Dog Whisperer CEASER MILLIAN when you NEED HIM?!?!?!

Mabel before:

Mabel after:

Direct from Yahoo News:

LONDON (AFP) - Elvis Presley's cherished teddy bear Mabel was reportedly all shook up after being mauled by an apparently jealous guard dog hired to protect her at a British museum.

The rare toy, made in 1909 by German manufacturer Steiff and valued at 40,000 pounds (75,000 dollars, 59,000 euros), was to have formed the centrepiece of a valuable collection on display at Wookey Hole Caves, in Somerset, southwest England.

But for some reason Barney, the Dobermann pinscher charged with protecting the precious cuddly toy and the other fluffy exhibits, took against them, going on the rampage in a frenzied after-hours attack.

Mabel was disembowled of her soft stuffing and had her head severed. The damage is believed to be irreperable.

"Barney has been a model guard dog for more than six years. I still can't believe what happened," security guard Greg West was quoted as saying after the attack on Tuesday night.

"Either there was a rogue scent of some kind on Mabel, which switched on Barney's deepest instincts, or it could have been jealousy. I was just stroking Mabel and saying what a nice bear she was."

Mabel was bought by local aristocrat Sir Benjamin Slade at an auction in Memphis, Tennessee, and was on a work surface while a glass case was being built for her.

Wookey Hall general manager Daniel Medley was quoted as saying he had spoken to Sir Benjamin.

"He is not very pleased at all," he added.

Elvis Presley's fifteenth movie was 'Viva Las Vegas', which was filmed July 15 - September 11, 1963. It opened nationwide on June 17, 1964 and became Elvis' highest grossing film ever. It co-starred Ann-Margret. The Andrea Doria has a connection to Elvis

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Sunken oceanliner still claiming lives
Staff and agencies
24 July, 2006

By RICHARD PYLE, Associated Press Writer

NEW YORK - On a foggy July night in 1956, the Italian luxury liner Andrea Doria was speeding toward New York on the last leg of a trans-Atlantic crossing when it collided with a passenger ship and sank, killing 51 people.

At least 14 people have died while exploring the wreck. The latest fatality came July 8, when researcher David Bright suffered decompression sickness after making his 120th trip to the Andrea Doria ahead of an anniversary dive there.

"It‘s called the Mount Everest of diving. It‘s such a dangerous depth, but it attracts a lot of interest," said Capt. Robert Meurn, professor emeritus at the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy on Long Island and, like his friend Bright, an expert on maritime history and the Andrea Doria in particular.

It was at the U.S. Coast Guard U.S. Coast Guard station across Long Island that first word of the disaster was received in a crackling radio message at 11:22 p.m.:

The message was from the sleek, white Stockholm, a Swedish passenger ship that had left New York a few hours earlier. In the swirling fog, the Stockholm‘s bow, reinforced for northern icefields, had ripped into the starboard side of the 29,000-ton Andrea Doria, the erstwhile flagship of the Italian Line.

Fortunately, at least 15 ships were close enough to respond. In all, about 1,660 people on the Andrea Doria were saved. On the Andrea Doria, 46 people died. Five were lost on the Stockholm.

Other survivors included film star Ruth Roman and songwriter Mike Stoller, who on landing in New York was told by his partner, Jerry Lieber, that their song "Hound Dog" had just been recorded by "some white kid named Elvis Presley." Stoller, who had been away four months, asked, "Elvis who?"

Each ship blamed the other, but the case was settled out of court, leaving the issue of responsibility unresolved.

The Stockholm suddenly looming out of the fog spurred the Doria‘s captain, Piero Calamai, to order "hard a-port!" — a sharp left turn — but also too late to avoid the collision. The fact that Calamai did not immediately sound an abandon ship alarm became one of several controversies after the sinking.

The collision led to changes that make a similar event today unlikely — the defining of shipping lanes, improved radar and bridge-to-bridge VHF communication between ships. Andrea Doria and Stockholm could communicate only through their radio rooms.

While improvements in technology have made the once-unreachable Doria popular with divers, Simpson — only 9 at the time of the wreck — quotes Bright as calling it "a very hazardous adventure ... one of the most difficult dives in the world."

Jessica Simpson tribute to Elvis Presley

Houndog: A disturbing movie is in the works

From All Headline News http://www.allheadlinenews.com/articles/7004316240 :

Dakota Fanning Filmed In Scenes With Violent Sexual Content

July 24, 2006 6:00 p.m. EST

Mary K. Brunskill - All Headline News Staff Writer
New York, NY (AHN) - Twelve-year-old actress Dakota Fanning is currently involved in a movie in which her character is subjected to a violent sex act. The screenplay for the film, which is called "Houndog," contains one scene in which Fanning's character is raped and several other scenes in which the character appears naked or wearing only "underpants."

The movie is was being filmed in North Carolina, and Fanning's rape scene had already been completed when production was shut down due to lack of funds. Potential investors were turned off by the shocking material and didn't want to be involved with the independent movie, which had a budget of under $5 million.

A source close to the situation told the New York Daily News, "The two taboos in Hollywood are child abuse and the killing of animals. In this movie, both things happen."

After production was halted, producer Jen Gatien located emergency investors and was able to resume filming. The shooting was scheduled to be completed at the end of last weekend.

"Houndog" is set in the rural South and deals with abuse, violence and Elvis Presley infatuation.

Robin Wright Penn is the executive producer and stars in the film along with David Morse and Piper Laurie.

New York entertainment entrepreneur Lawrence Robins said, "The subject matter is very tough, but I was attracted to it because in the end it's a story about human understanding, about a little girl who's dealt a very bad deck of cards, but finds solace in the music of Elvis and survives."

Sonny West inks book deal with Triumph/Random House

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Sonny West, Elvis Presley’s longtime bodyguard and charter member of the Memphis Mafia, has signed a publishing deal with Triumph/Random House for his upcoming book, “Elvis: Still Taking Care of Business.”

The deal was inked on June 1, 2006, and is set for a 2007 release to coincide with the 30th anniversary of Presley’s death.

West, who was Presley’s bodyguard from 1960 to 1976, said he’s extremely happy his long-awaited book has the backing of one of the world’s largest and best-known publishers.

“I’m extremely appreciative that Triumph/Random House sees the value of this work and I look forward to working with them,” West said. “I hope the fans will respond in kind, because my book is a tribute to Elvis.”

West’s co-author, Marshall Terrill, said Triumph/Random House’s involvement will give “Elvis: Still Taking Care of Business” a much bigger promotional push than most other Presley books.

“The publisher has very high hopes and they’re going to make every possible effort to promote our book,” Terrill said. “Even though I’m biased, I feel it’s the best and most objective look at Elvis Presley in many years. I believe most Elvis fans will come away with a deeper understanding of the man and his life because of Sonny’s insights.”

The collaboration, which started in 2002, is follow-up to the 1977 book, “Elvis: What Happened?” in which Sonny West co-authored with Red West and Dave Hebler.

The book will cover West's 16 years with Elvis Presley from 1960 to 1976, the aftermath of “Elvis: What Happened?” to his thoughts today on Elvis, Priscilla and Lisa Marie Presley.

The book will include photos from West’s personal collection as well as photos donated from the Russ Howe Collection. The book also includes two appendices – “All The King’s Men” and “Myths, Facts and Frequently Asked Questions”. The former is a section on former Memphis Mafia members while the latter is a list of questions West answers directly from Presley followers.

In addition to combing through hundreds of documents, the two had several Presley experts read the manuscript to ensure its accuracy.

“It was my privilege and pleasure to help edit the book because I was able to relive a lot of the memories,” said author and longtime Presley fan Sandi Pichon. “I also learned quite a bit about Elvis through many untold stories. Sonny’s book will make a welcome addition to any Elvis Presley library.”

Chicago-based Triumph Books was acquired by Random House in May and will now exist as an independently-run imprint of the Random House Publishing Group.

Vintage Lisa Marie and Priscilla

I remember when this commercial came out. Do you?

Did you know?

That Depeche Mode's Personal Jesus was inspired by Priscilla Presley's book Elvis & Me? It was.

According to Wilkenpedia:
"The song itself was inspired by the book "Elvis and Me" by Priscilla Presley. According to songwriter Martin Gore, "It's a song about being a Jesus for somebody else, someone to give you hope and care. It's about how Elvis was her man and her mentor and how often that happens in love relationships; how everybody's heart is like a god in some way, and that's not a very balanced view of someone, is it?".

Elvis Exhibit Leaving Fort Knox

FORT KNOX, Ky. -- In the days when Elvis Presley was staging concerts, the announcer would signal that the show was over with the line "Elvis has left the building."

At Fort Knox, Elvis is leaving the building on Friday.

For the last two years, the Patton Museum has offered visitors a look at an exhibit concerning "the Soldier known as Elvis Presley," but its last day is Friday.

The exhibit opened March 24, 2004, on the 46th anniversary of the day Elvis joined the Army and has included mementoes of Elvis when he served as an enlisted Soldier in Friedberg, Germany.

Presley served in the Army from March 1958 until March 1960, spending the majority of this time assigned to Ray Barracks in Friedberg. The time is running out to see -- among other things -- the Army fatigues and overcoat worn by "The King."

Scarlett outs JRM?

We've all heard Jonathan Rhys-Meyers proclamation that ELVIS PRESLEY "was gay."
Well lest us remind you of his recent co-star , actress Scarlett Johansson's interview from January:

Johansson: "Rhys-Meyers is Like a Girl"
1 January 2006, Contact Music

Hollywood stunner SCARLETT JOHANSSON would never date her MATCH POINT co-star JONATHAN RHYS-MEYERS because he's too much of a girl.

The LOST IN TRANSLATION star, who insists nothing romantic has ever occurred between them, admits she finds Rhys Meyers very attractive except for his effeminate qualities of loving shoes and gossiping.

She says, "I think he's a catch.

"He's a fantastic actor, intense, gorgeous and funny. But I can say for sure I never had a passionate encounter with him.

"He's a really sexy, brooding guy but he's very gossipy.

"He likes shoes, and it was like having a girlfriend on the set."

Is Clooney Dating Elvis' ex?

GEORGE CLOONEY has reportedly found summer loving on the shores of Italy's Lake Como - with ELVIS PRESLEY's ex. The odd couple has been spotted dining together in the village where Clooney has a huge holiday villa, and the movie star even treated his guest to a sunset boat ride around the lake, according to website TMZ.com. Thompson, who was dating Presley when he died in 1977, has a string of high-profile exes - she was married to US Olympian BRUCE JENNER and songwriter DAVID FOSTER. Clooney is reportedly dating his on-off lover KRISTA ALLEN, and was spotted spending quality time with the actress in Italy last week (ends23JUN06).

Prime Minister: Thank You, Thank You Very Much

By NEDRA PICKLER, Associated Press Writer
Thu Jun 29, 10:56 PM ET

WASHINGTON - It's not every day that two world leaders croon to each other, "I Want You, I Need You, I Love You."

But clearly President Bush has special feelings for Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi, and he put them on full display from morning until night Thursday at the White House.

The love fest began with an elaborate welcoming ceremony on the South Lawn and an exchange of gifts inside afterward. Koizumi gave the sports-loving president a bike and an enlarged version of the Japanese postage stamp that features Babe Ruth. The Bushes gave the Elvis-loving prime minister a refurbished 1954 jukebox that includes 25 songs by his favorite singer.

"Prime Minister Koizumi searched the keys and found `I Want You, I Need You, I Love You,'" first lady Laura Bush said. "He and the president sang a duet."

In the evening, the Bushes hosted a formal dinner, the eighth of their White House tenure, in honor of Koizumi, who leaves office in September after five years in office.

The divorced Koizumi did not have a date. He made his entrance between the president and Mrs. Bush, who wore a taupe dress by Bill Blass with cherry blossoms hand-painted on the Chantilly lace bodice.

The guest list included Olympic athletes Apolo Anton Ohno, Kristi Yamaguchi, Rena Inoue and John Baldwin, astronaut Soichi Noguchi and baseball great Hank Aaron.

On Friday, the U.S. and Japanese leaders had their sights set on Graceland, Presley's mansion in Memphis, Tenn. Their tour guides: Elvis' former wife, Priscilla, and his daughter, Lisa Marie Presley.

Bush paid Koizumi the ultimate compliment by comparing the prime minister to his musical hero.

"Like you, he had great hair," Bush joked during the black-tie dinner toasts. "Like you, he was known to sing in public. And like you, he won admirers in countries far from home. That man was Elvis."

In return, Koizumi flattered the president with another comparison to a pop culture icon.

"I would like to pay my sincerest respects to President Bush, who has been so steadfast and determined in protecting freedom and justice. I sometimes see the image of the United States as Gary Cooper in my favorite movie, `High Noon,'" Koizumi said in his toast, drawing a shoulder-shaking laugh from Bush.

The White House dinner celebrated Japan-U.S. ties, complete with a diplomatic choice of main course — Kobe beef from descendants of Japanese cattle raised in Bush's home state of Texas.

The menu was chosen when the United States was still trying to persuade Japan to end a ban on U.S. beef imports imposed over concerns about mad cow disease. Japan lifted the ban last week, and Bush prompted Koizumi to say before the television cameras that he was feeling "very good" after eating a cut of the U.S. meat on Wednesday night.

At the White House, they dined on beef with cracked black pepper, shitake mushroom jus, silver corn pilaf and sesame-coated wild asparagus. The gold-colored china was from the Clinton administration.

Also on the menu: Maryland she crab soup; jicama and cucumber chiffonade; and an ornate dessert modeled after a bonsai garden, with a chocolate tree on a base of kumquat-stuffed cherries, surrounded by miniature chocolate pagodas.

The Japanese theme extended to the decorations.

The tables were covered in green silk and large spheres of green cymbidium orchids, which grow in the wild in Japan. The orchids rested on top of tall clear glass cylinders that allowed guests to see each other across the table.

Three bonsai trees on loan from the National Arboretum were set up in the Grand Foyer. The menus themselves were decorated with a drawing of a blossom from the cherry trees that were given to the U.S. as a symbol of friendship from the Japanese nearly 100 years ago.

The 18 performers in the Brian Setzer Orchestra kicked off the entertainment with their hit song "Jump, Jive An' Wail." And, of course, they played an Elvis song, "Blue Suede Shoes." Koizumi then prodded a performance from one of the guests, Japanese-born country music singer and fiddle player Shoji Tabuchi of Branson, Mo.

Bush tapped his foot, nodded his head to the beat and, at one point, started rocking so much to the music that his chair swayed back and forth. But at 10:10 p.m., the famously early sleeper ended the show by taking the microphone and asking the crowd, "Ready to go to bed?"

With a nod toward Koizumi, Bush said: "He's gentle-eyed, and so am I. Off to Graceland."

Zippin Pippin goes to a Museum

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Owners of a small museum wanted a piece of Elvis Presley's favorite amusement park ride but ended up instead with the whole thing — a roller coaster called the Zippin Pippin.

The Pippin was bought by the city's park commission in 1947. Most of the superstructure for its 2,800 feet of track was replaced over the years but it's still billed as one of the oldest wooden roller coasters in the country.

The ride was a top attraction at Libertyland, a 30-year-old amusement park Presley often rented for private parties.

Libertyland is closing and its rides and concession stands were sold at auction Wednesday.

Robert Reynolds and Stephen Shutts, partners in a traveling museum called the Honky Tonk Hall of Fame & Rock-N-Roll Roadshow, showed up planning to bid on one of the roller coaster cars.

Instead, they bought the whole Pippin for $2,500. It went cheap because the sale agreement gives the buyer a month to take it down and haul it away.

Reynolds said he had not yet decided what they will do with the Pippin.

"There's 30 days to figure it out. ... The car is all we needed," he said.

MEYERS: 'ELVIS WAS GAY'

JONATHAN RHYS MEYERS is convinced ELVIS PRESLEY was homosexual - as he is suspicious of his glitzy wardrobe and maternal attachment. The Irish actor, who played the title role in 2005 TV film ELVIS, has branded the HEARTBREAK HOTEL rocker "the gayest f**king thing on two legs" after time spent researching the star yielded truly camp results. He says, "Anyone who lives with their mama that long and dresses up in that much spangly gold with black lacquer on their eyes has definitely got something going on."

Historic Zippin Pippin sells for $2,500

The Zippin Pippin, the most prominent and historic ride at Libertyland, sold for $2,500 today at public auction.

The historic roller coaster, reportedly Elvis Presley's favorite ride, had been in operation since 1923. It was among an estimated 100 items Mid-South Fair officials put up for auction Wednesday as they prepare to close the park and sell off the assets to recoup losses.

Topping the money list was the Kamikazi, which sold for $190,000, followed by the Rebellion at $155,000. The park's other roller coaster, the Revolution, sold for $55,000.

About 75 people paid the $10 fee to take part in the auction that started around 10:30 a.m. and wrapped up shortly after 3 p.m.

The auction was conducted by Norton Auctioneers of Coldwater, Mich., which specializes in the auction and appraisal of amusement parks, carnivals, Halloween attractions, zoos, water parks and other tourist attractions.

Fair and auction officials had estimated that the sale could bring in as much as $1 million. Billy Orr, president and CEO of the Mid-South Fair, said after the auction they expected the sales total to be close to that figure.

A final tally was not expected until Thursday.

Those buying the items have 30 days to remove them from the park, Orr said.

Gellar on his Ebay loss

GELLER: 'I'LL TAKE MY ELVIS CASE TO THE POPE'

LATEST: Celebrity psychic URI GELLER has vowed to appeal to the Pope if he fails in his court case to win back ELVIS PRESLEY's former home. Last month (MAY06) Geller made a successful $905,100 (GBP481,000) bid on internet auction site eBay for the Tennessee property Presley lived in before moving to Graceland. But the owners snubbed the deal and sold the four-bedroom house to a foundation formed by music producer MIKE CURB instead. And now Geller, who planned to turn the house into an Elvis museum, reveals he'll stop at nothing to claim what is rightfully his. He says, "There's no doubt in my mind the house is mine. I absolutely believe that. "I've sought legal advice on both sides of the Atlantic and if that fails I'll take it to the Supreme Court. Even the Pope! "I have a very strong case. Even a child would understand that my eBay bid was a legally binding contract." But eBay warns its rules will make it difficult for him to sue. Spokeswoman CATHERINE ENGLAND says, "The platform we provide in real estate really serves to generate interest. "It isn't a legally binding contract."

Priscilla speaks out on Prescription Drugs

source: Yahoo News

LOS ANGELES - Priscilla Presley plans to speak at the opening of a drug rehabilitation center in Michigan on Saturday.

Presley will help inaugurate the 120-bed Narconon Stone Hawk East residential center in Albion, Mich., spokesman Greg LaClaire told The Associated Press on Friday.

Narconon is based on principles developed by science fiction writer L. Ron Hubbard, the founder of Scientology. Presley is a Scientologist.

The Narconon program is "capable of eliminating the very cravings that drive addicts in recovery back to drugs," Presley said in a statement.

The 61-year-old actress said she became "passionate" about recovery after enduring the "personal heartbreaking experience of seeing family and friends fall into addiction to alcohol or other drugs."

Her late husband, Elvis Presley, had persistent problems with pharmaceutical drugs.

I would be PISSED too!

Uri Geller's Elvis museum plan dealt setback
By James Kelleher
Reuters
CHICAGO (Reuters) - Uri Geller's dream of turning the first home Elvis Presley owned into a museum dedicated to the paranormal has been dealt a setback nearly as bizarre as the spoon-bending trick that made the Israeli-born psychic famous.

Geller, who thought he had purchased the Memphis property in an eBay auction last month for $905,100, learned on Friday the sellers had turned around and sold the 3,000-square-foot (280-sq-metres) house to a foundation set up by Mike Curb, the longtime music producer.

The King of rock 'n' roll lived in the house at 1034 Audubon Dr. for 13 months before moving to Graceland, the now-famous Memphis estate where he died in 1977.

It was not immediately clear what Curb, elected lieutenant governor of California in the late 1970s, paid for the four-bedroom, two-bath home Elvis bought in 1956 with royalties from "Heartbreak Hotel."

What was clear late on Friday was that Geller was preparing for a protracted legal fight to get the house back. "We are absolutely, mind-blown angry," Geller told Reuters by telephone from his home in London. "Of course we're going to sue."

Geller and his two partners, New York lawyer Pete Gleason and Lisbeth Silvandersson, a Swedish-born jewelry maker who lives in England, may not be able to pursue a breach of contract claim against the sellers.

That's because eBay maintains real estate auctions on its site are marketing events, and not actual sales.

"The platform we provide in real estate really serves to generate interest," EBay spokeswoman Catherine England told Reuters. "... It isn't a legally binding contract."

And yet another odd twist may yet give Geller a chance.

The sellers, a husband and wife, recently had their debts discharged in bankruptcy court, Doug Alrutz, Geller's Memphis lawyer, told Reuters.

While the couple had included the home in their list of assets, the court did not appreciate its value. As a result, the bankruptcy trustee is now thinking about reopening the case, a move that could lead the court to reverse all the sellers' actions, Alrutz said.

But Ronnie Dunn didn't know what it was, so he tossed it into the crowd. That was when the execs who knew what it was went crazy and dashed into the crowd to retrieve the precious historical garment.

Dunn says, "It was heavy and it smelled like mothballs."

TAYLOR HICKS IS THE NEXT AMERICAN IDOL!

I watched season one.

I even watched season two.

But season FIVE is the one that really has my full attention. The reason being T-A-Y-L-O-R-H-I-C-K-S.

Taylor is pure talent. He is so amazing. I love him. He has made me cry. Gave me chills. If he does not win this contest tommorrow night, I will be pissed. He can not be robbed of the title so rightfully his.

Sure, Katherine is very pretty and has a beautiful voice, but she pales in comparison to the unique, soulful, brilliant TAYLOR HICKS. He puts a lump in my throat. I fricken love him.

I want him to win. Here's the reason why:

Let me repeat that again, Taylor Hicks IS the next American Idol:

THAT IS THE MOST STUNNING PERFORMANCE. Taylor's version of You Are So Beautiful, is abSOULutely BEAUTIFUL. He won me over with that. That right there locked me in as a fan.

I've been tryin to vote for him since the lines were open, but the number(s) have been busy. Its making me sad since its nearer the 4th hour mark. I'm nervous for him, but at the same time confident that America will vote CORRECTLY.

Don't let this one get away, folks.

He can and will take care of business!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

TAYLOR HICKS ROCKS!! GOOD LUCK TAYLOR!!! XOXOXOXO

New EPE marketing campaign for 2006-2007

ELVIS IS

ELVIS PRESLEY ENTERPRISES UNVEILS 2006 ADVERTISING, MARKETING AND LICENSING BRANDING CAMPAIGN

Elvis is the king. Elvis is sexy. Elvis is Rock & Roll...Elvis is a lot of things to a lot of people but basically, Elvis just IS.

Fifty years since Elvis Presley’s career exploded into the mainstream culture of America and almost 29 years since his death, Elvis Presley Enterprises announced its latest advertising, marketing and licensing branding campaign: Elvis Is

The Elvis Is branding will begin in August of 2006 and will be in place for 18 months.

As with the most recent campaign proclaiming Elvis Lives, the new logo and statement will be utilized by EPE online on Elvis.com, on billboards, banners and merchandise and as the branding for the summer 2006 tourism campaign. This will include print travel ads in People, Better Homes and Gardens, Reader’s Digest and many others.

The campaign evolved while the EPE licensing, marketing and communications team was developing their new branding campaign, and could not find the appropriate word to complete the statement, "Elvis is…" Ultimately, it was decided to let licensees complete the sentence for themselves or let it stand alone, and to utilize the phrase for all marketing and communications efforts, allowing the consumer to complete the sentence.

In addition to being used on a wide range of licensed products, the Elvis Is campaign will also appear in EPE and Graceland’s marketing and PR efforts. "When Elvis fans all around the world see our branding online, in ads, on billboards and other places, they are thrilled that they can also find merchandise featuring those same designs," said Carol Butler, Director of Worldwide Licensing for EPE. "We witnessed that with our current campaign Elvis Lives, and anticipate the same consumer reaction to Elvis Is. The response from our licensees has already been very enthusiastic."

The graphic for the branding was chosen after extensive research and focus groups with Graceland visitors, and features a classic Elvis illustration with a pop, modern feel. It was designed by Memphis award-winning graphic designer Billy Riley, owner of Combustion Design.

The Elvis Is campaign will be used by EPE to support their branding strategy, which is to establish and build business relationships that enable them to provide Elvis's millions of current and future fans around the world with products and services that allow them to experience Elvis in music, movies, pop culture, online and in other forms of entertainment and merchandise.

Elvis continues to be the most recognized name in entertainment and the top-seller of number one records, movies and memorabilia today. Forbes magazine once again recently named him the most successful and highest earning deceased artist, and over 600,000 people visit Graceland annually.

"Elvis Decoded" A Fan's Guide to Deciphering the Myths and Misinformation

Hi All My Elvis Friends,

This is the exhaustive work and research of my friend, author Patrick Lacy. I think many in the Elvis world and Elvis fans will enjoy and understand the importance of this work, which is an examination of the information, and misinformation, in many of the Elvis books. Patrick also addresses the many rumors and myths surrounding the “Elvis is alive” theories. This endeavor not only will dispel these types of rumors and stories but will also tell the facts and explain why these stories and rumors are wrong with rational explanations. This is a definitive work that will explore this topic, and many other topics, and hopefully put an end to all the misinformation and rumor.

Enjoy this fascinating and important read.

Cirque du Soleil to build new shows around Elvis

SOURCE: REUTERS

By Steve Gorman
Fri May 19, 10:29 AM ET

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Elvis may have left the building, but in a couple of years fans of Cirque du Soleil may find the King of Rock 'n' Roll swiveling his hips and singing "Jailhouse Rock" from a trapeze.

CKX Inc., which owns rights to Elvis Presley's name, likeness and music publishing, has teamed up with the famed troupe of acrobats and contortionists to produce Presley-themed shows around the world, the company said on Thursday.

Dubbed the "Elvis Presley Projects," the joint venture will incorporate Cirque du Soleil touring shows and permanent Cirque productions at fixed venues, all incorporating the name, image, likeness and music of Presley.

Cirque will also produce an interactive multimedia presentation of music, audiovisual works and memorabilia featuring the life and times of Elvis.

The shows are all slated to debut in 2008.

While production plans were still murky, CKX Chairman Robert Sillerman said he expected the shows would involve a mix of "original recordings and new performances" of Presley's music and that Cirque du Soleil "will create an extravaganza, a spectacle to that."

Sillerman said some kind of Elvis Presley character might be part of the shows.

A separate deal will have to be reached with RCA Records parent Sony BMG for permission to use recordings of Presley's music because that label still owns the masters to his songs, he added.

The new Presley production will be added to the repertoire of 13 shows that Montreal-based Cirque du Soleil is now presenting around the world. Its latest extravaganza, the first incorporating music not composed for Cirque, opens next month in Las Vegas featuring the music of the Beatles.

CKX bought a controlling interest in Elvis Presley Enterprises from the rock legend's daughter, Lisa Marie Presley, in December 2004 in a deal valued at $100 million.

Sillerman's company struck a similar deal for the rights to boxing great Muhammad Ali's image for about $50 million in cash last month.

Sold: Elvis Presley's house goes for $905,100

source: yahoo.com/reuters

By Michael Conlon
1 hour, 39 minutes ago

CHICAGO (Reuters) - Psychic Uri Geller and two partners have bought the Tennessee house Elvis Presley lived in before moving to Graceland, with a winning bid of $905,100 (480,000 pounds) on eBay, he said on Monday.

"We are unbelievably pleased. This is a piece of history," Geller said by phone from England.

"We intend to restore it to its old glory. We would like to bring sick children there (for tours), Palestinian children, Israeli children, American children," the Israeli-born Geller said. "Hopefully one day we might get approval to turn it into a museum."

Presley bought the four-bedroom, two-bath house at 1034 Audubon Drive in Memphis in 1956 with a down payment of $500. He lived there for 13 months before moving to Graceland, the now-famous Memphis estate where he died in 1977.

During his time in the white, ranch-style house with an outdoor swimming pool, Presley's career took off with hits such as "All Shook Up" and "Don't be cruel."

Geller identified the sellers as Mike and Cindy Hazen, who bought the house some years ago, though not from Presley, for about $180,000.

Geller had original bid $300,000 last month but a bidding war ensued and the price ballooned, he said. During the process he was approached by dozens of people wanting to go in with him, he said. He chose two, New York lawyer Jim Gleason and Lisbeth Silvandersson, a Swedish-born jewellery maker who lives in England, as equal partners.

He had set a ceiling price of $1.11 million, said Geller, who acknowledges a paranormal fascination with the number 11.

"As the clock closed on the bidding Sunday," Geller said, "I felt intuitively I got the price. I was text messaging Gleason and it was exactly 11 on my mobile phone and suddenly the radio started playing an Elvis song. That was Elvis telling me we got the house!"

Geller met Presley in Las Vegas in the 1970s after the "King of Rock and Roll" asked him to perform his "spoon bending" trick for him, he said. Since then he has amassed a large collection of Presley memorabilia, he said.

Remember this golden lesson for your next trip to Memphis!

American Idol recap

This one definetly one episode of American Idol I did NOT want to miss. The final four contestants visited Graceland and had a personal tour from Priscilla and Lisa Marie. The musical mentor was Tommy Mottola, who was inspired by Elvis, and , well.....You all prob know the scoop of what happened, who did well, who went home, blah, blah, blah.

In my opinion, Taylor Hicks NAILED "In The Ghetto" and he gained some newfound respect from me with THAT performance. I was gung ho over Katherine McPhee at first for singing that Elvis-Faith Hill song, but Taylor? OMG. I loved his performance!!!

If you were one of the few who missed AI Elvis Week elimination, then check out who went home. Shocker!!!!

GOOD LUCK TO TAYLOR HICKS!!! I really want him to win. ;)

This week in Elvis History

Elvis Presley married Priscilla Beaulieu at the Aladdin Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, on May 1, 1967.

Elvis is King at a SENIOR Prom

Residents of the Manor Care nursing home in Illinois enjoyed their second annual "senior prom" recently. They sipped champagne and socialized while the king and queen of the prom were announced.

"I can't think of a better place where I'd rather be queen than in here. The people are wonderful, the staff has been terrific and we're gonna have a big party today,” said Sandra Sekeres, the newly crowned queen.

The residents also enjoyed entertainment from none other than “The King” himself – Elvis Presley...a tribute artist, of course.

Presley + Parton = Tennesse Tourism

Country star DOLLY PARTON and late rock icon ELVIS PRESLEY have 'teamed up' to help boost tourism in their native Tennessee. Using the latest computer technology, tourism bosses have doctored a California driving scene from Presley's 1967 movie CLAMBAKE and replaced actress SHELLEY FABARES with country queen Parton. The clever ad bosses also turned Malibu's beachside background from the film into Tennessee countryside for the new TV commercial. In the clever ad, Parton chats with the King of Rock 'n' Roll as he takes her for a drive.

ETAs : Soon to be extinct?

Recently recieved a forwarded email, I'd like to share with you all:

From Tim Reid in Las Vegas

FOR nearly 30 years since the death of Elvis Presley, his impersonators have suffered for their art. They struggle to achieve the perfect quiff. They sweat profusely in white sequined jump suits. Some, whose bellies are bigger than their sideburns, have been floored by gyration-induced hernias.

Now, however, America’s estimated 30,000 Elvis impressionists are really shook up. They fear that they are about to be put out of business. In a move that has made the ranks of the lookalikes queasier than the thought of a deep-fried peanut butter and banana sandwich — the King’s favourite snack in the bloated autumn of his life — a New York businessman has bought the rights to Elvis’s name and likeness and has threatened to ban “unauthorised” Elvis clones.

Robert Sillerman, a billionaire media entrepreneur who owns American Idol — the hugely successful equivalent of Pop Idol in Britain — paid $114 million (£65 million) last year for an 85 per cent stake in Elvis Presley Enterprises, which is run by the Presley family. He got control of Graceland, the King’s home in Memphis, Tennessee, and control of his name and likeness, but not his music.

The Presley family, through Elvis Presley Enterprises, has allowed most impersonators free use of the singer’s name and likeness, believing that it was good marketing and a way to ensure that the King would never die. In an interview with The New York Times, however, Mr Sillerman outlined plans that have left many Elvis impersonators weak at the knees.

CKX, Mr Sillerman’s company, intends to open an interactive Elvis exhibit and huge Elvis-themed cabaret show on the Las Vegas Strip, which he hopes will attract millions of visitors a year. In Memphis he plans to demolish the 128-room Heartbreak Hotel, which stands opposite Graceland on Elvis Presley Boulevard, and build two 400-room hotels, convention space, restaurants, shops and an amphitheatre.

Of Elvis impersonators, he said ominously: “If we were going to do a show that was based on Elvis impersonators, then obviously it wouldn’t make sense to have unauthorised Elvis impersonators.” Mr Sillerman has since refused to answer questions about what he plans to do with the Elvis impersonator industry, which many believe has become so risible that it has made Presley more of a laughing stock than an iconic image ready to be mined financially.

CKX is powerless to take action against impersonators in Europe, including Britain, where the Elvis image is in the public domain. Mr Sillerman says that he does not believe that Elvis Presley Enterprises has used Presley nearly to his full potential in the US. Impersonators in America believe that it is inevitable that their industry — which includes dwarf Elvises, Chinese Elvises and African-American Elvises — is in for a cull.

Mr Sillerman has bought Elvis-A-Rama, a museum and impersonator theatre just off the Las Vegas Strip and is shutting it down in October. Justin Curtis, 22, an impersonator who had finished a show at Elvis-A-Rama before an audience of 30, said that he was willing to pay royalties to Mr Sillerman.

But Ted Davis, a trademark lawyer, said that Mr Sillerman had legal precedent on his side. If the owner of someone’s image were successful in stopping impersonators in one state, there was precedent whereby state courts had imposed a nationwide injunction on unauthorised impersonators.

Matt Lewis, another Elvis impersonator, said that his agents had been studying the legal ramifications of his status since Mr Sillerman acquired the rights. Some impersonators make $300,000 a year, and Mr Lewis acknowledged that he made “six figures” per annum.

“If they tried to stop me I’d figure out a way to keep going,” he said. “We would band together. I have this image of old ladies going to underground shows and giving passwords at the door. There would be underground Elvis speakeasies. Honestly.”

ELVIS PRESLEY's ex-wife PRISCILLA has voiced her support for TOM CRUISE and KATIE HOLMES' plans for a silent birth later this month (APR06), insisting she wishes she had done the same for daughter LISA MARIE. The 60-year-old actress maintains Scientology is misunderstood and is urging more people to study the controversial religion. She says, "If people actually read L RON HUBBARD's teachings they would understand that drug-free silent births show respect to the baby and stop them becoming unbalanced. A Lesson in Sideburns: Part I

Image hosting by Photobucket

Sideburns
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Sideburns are patches of facial hair on the sides of one's face, in front of the ears. They were originally called burnsides, possibly after General Ambrose Burnside. His hairstyle, commonly known as mutton-chops or "chops", connected thick sideburns via the moustache but left the chin clean-shaven.

Sideburns may end at mid-ear level; they may end at the earlobe; or they may extend downward and follow the jawline, nearly meeting at the chin. They can be slender or wide, clipped closely or allowed to grow bushy. They can end in points, or bluntly, and be either cut squarely or flared wide, following the hairline on the upper cheek. They can be worn alone, or in combination with a moustache or a goatee. However, when they extend from ear to ear via the chin, the sideburns are merely part of the beard, and thus are not known as such.

Indigenous men of Mexico, who shave their heads and wear their sideburns long, as well as Colombians, who wear their sideburns long and typically do not have any other facial hair, are said to be wearing balcarrotas.

After the clean-shaven period of the eighteenth century, sideburns, like beards, became greatly popular in the nineteenth century throughout the Western world, a trend later adopted in Japan. Nineteenth-century sideburns were often much more extravagant than those seen today - very bushy and extending much further down, almost to the chin. As with beards, sideburns went widely out of fashion in the early twentieth century, but made a comeback in the 1960s and 1970s among the younger generation. Thus, depending on one's perspective, growing sideburns may be seen as stuffily Victorian and ultra-conservative or a sign of 1970s-style rebelliousness. Today sideburns enjoy an intermediate level of popularity.

Question of the Day

How far would you go to look like Elvis?

Hi Darla...Important Book Update From Bill Burk Of Elvis World Magazine

FORWARD EMAIL POST: Hi Darla...Important Book Update From Bill Burk Of Elvis World Magazine

***********************************************

Earlier I warned you people there was a new book out on Elvis by Jimmy Denson, "as told to Heart Sharpe."

The warning was twofold:

1. The book is titled "Elvis: Through My Eyes," which, as most of you know, is the title of my all-time best-seller from 1987, which has been thru many printings. There is no violation of the law in using the same title. Copyright laws do not protect titles -- only content.

2. Jimmy Denson lived in or around Lauderdale Courts when the Presleys lived there. Since Elvis became famous, Denson is one of those who popped out of the woodworks claiming all kinds of close ties to Elvis -- not only during the Lauderdale Courts days, but after.
How to describe Jimmy Denson:
A. His elevator doesn't go to the top?
B. A couple of Jokers short of a deck?
C. Someone who stayed in the boxing ring a couple of bells too long?

I have not seen or read this "book," and doubt I will. But if it is 200 pages long, someone had to loan him some words to his vocabulary to fill that much space -- and if it has 100 photos, as claimed, wonder who taught Denson how to point the camera?

HERE IS A REPORT I received from well-known Elvis fan and Elvis author Sandi Pichon today. Sandi has sent this to scores of Elvis fans and fan clubs and has asked them to further spread the word. Needless to say, I back her effort 1000%:

>>
I am writing to you about a book I am begging you not to buy or endorse. It was written by Las Vegas resident Heart Shapre with Jimmy Denson. It has one of Ed Bonja's pictures on the cover and says "By Ed Bonja" misleading people into thinking Ed wrote this piece of trash. The name is the same as Bill Burk's "Elvis: Through My Eyes". IT IS IN NO WAY CONNECTED TO BILL BURK! It says Elvis was a drug addict before he went into the army, among other lies. It is an awful book that does nothing but tarnish Elvis' image, based on lies. It alludes to homosexuality, Vernon being a womanizer and abuser and other trash. PLEASE FORWARD THIS INFORMATION TO ANYONE YOU KNOW.

Sandi

www.raisedonelvis.com

>>
I, TOO, ASK YOU ALL to spread the word to the far reaches of the world so that Elvis fans, spotting the title, won't buy this book based on its title. If you have $20 to waste (plus shipping), then donate it to a charity in Elvis' name and you will be doing the entire world, including yourself, a favor.

OR ... send it to us and renew your ELVIS WORLD subscription for another year!

When I talked long distance to writer Heart Sharpe and called to her attention the FACT they were using the same name as my Elvis bestseller, the tone in her voice was sort of: "So, there's nothing you can do about it." Sort of a laughing tone.

True, legally, I can't stop this title from being used, but I can warn each and every fan about this book, then ask them to warn each and every fan and fan club they know of -- and spread the word like wildfire.

THAT will send a proper message.

As for content of the two books, I'll put my 19-year-old book up against Denson's any day of the year, any day of the century, and wipe his nose in FACTS!

NOW YOU ALL have been properly warned -- again! If now you go ahead and buy Denson's book thinking it's mine ... your fault. If you then read that book about Elvis being on drugs at an early age; about Gladys begging Denson to raise Elvis in the Courts, etc, etc, adBS . . . and you become offended, as others obviously already have ... then point the finger at yourself because now you know these ARE different books with entirely different contents.

And AS you spread this word, would appreciate you sending a copy to me, as well.

Thank you.

Thankyouveramuch.

007

PS -- Now, Tuesday (28th, tomorrow), I am off to Tupelo to gather up some positive Elvis and Vernon and Gladys stories for EW80, which will be headed your way in about 30 days from now -- so if you need to be renewing your EW, the time to do that is ... NOW !!

Cilla shuns Dallas remake

Direct from Contact Music:

ELVIS PRESLEY's ex-wife PRISCILLA is "very reluctant" to sign up for the silver screen version of US soap DALLAS, because she doesn't believe the TV series can be improved upon. While stars including JENNIFER LOPEZ, JOHN TRAVOLTA, SHIRLEY MACLAINE and LUKE WILSON are clamouring for parts, Presley isn't keen on reliving the fortunes of the rich EWING family. And Presley, who played JENNA WADE in the show, is unsure the 1980s programme will translate to modern culture. She says, "I'm very reluctant about it because I don't know how it can get better than what we had. This is a whole new generation and I don't know if they will appreciate it as much as our generation. "We grew up with it, we knew the characters very well, we knew the actors very well. It is a different time period now. I don't know if I would want to be in something that was already successful and risk myself with something that may or may not be."

I found this neat undated video segment of Paul McCartney giving a mini-salute to the King. I loved it and wanted to share this with all of you.

FOR SALE: Audubon Drive !!!!

From Denver Post:

Elvis Presley's first house will go on the auction block April 14 on eBay. The ranch-style Memphis, Tenn., house at 1034 Audubon Drive still includes some of the improvements Presley made after he bought the home - a pool and motorcycle garage. Presley purchased the home shortly after his first No. 1 hit, "Heartbreak Hotel," in 1956, but lived there for only a little more than a year before moving to his Graceland mansion. Bidding ends May 14.

McPheever for Elvis

Earlier this week, American Idol contestant Katherine McPhee sang a sultry cover of Faith Hill's "You're Bringing Out The Elvis In Me" , which ultimately kept her in the race.

Quote of the Day

Priscilla Presley on the break-up of her marriage to Elvis:

"He (Elvis) was always the first, he was the first of everything he did. I lost my identity to an extent. Anyone can get lost in that world. When Lisa Marie came I felt like I was serving two masters. I stopped travelling with him but it was still very difficult. He was very demanding."

Elvis is Smiling

Elvis Presley's ex-wife Priscilla recently accepted the honor of Graceland becoming a US National Historic Landmark, on behalf of the late rock n' roll legend. Presley, told reporters that Elvis would have loved the attention. The Memphis, Tennessee mansion was awarded the status in March.

Priscilla said, "It's very strange to have Graceland declared a National Historic Landmark, because it was our home first and foremost. I had no idea when I opened the house to the public in 1982 that it would receive so many visitors. Elvis would be very pleased about it."

I sincerely encourage you all to take full advantage of this little online hangout---for you are the reason we created it in the first place. :)
